Server Rooms
Physical environment, cooling, fire suppression, and monitoring standards
Physical infrastructure is the part of IT compliance that people skip because it feels unglamorous, and it is the part that takes buildings offline. Air conditioning fails, a roof leaks, a fire panel has been in fault for months and the service contract lapsed.
These are physical checks, done by someone standing in the room with a camera.
What this library checks
- Temperature and humidity monitoring, alert thresholds and where those alerts go
- Cooling redundancy and the last service date on each unit
- Fire detection and suppression, inspection currency and panel status
- Water ingress risk from above, below and adjacent plant
- Physical access control to the room and the list of who holds it
- Cable management, airflow obstruction and hot aisle discipline
- Combustible storage, which accumulates in server rooms the way it does in no other room
Evidence you will be asked for
Every check in Spectra Core carries its own evidence. These are the artefacts an auditor, insurer or board most often wants to see for this area.
- Dated photographs of the room in its current state
- Environmental monitoring configuration and recent alert history
- Fire suppression inspection certificate with expiry date
Where this usually goes wrong
In the Caribbean this library carries more weight than it does elsewhere. Humidity, salt air, storm season and utility instability make the physical environment a live risk rather than a formality.
Run this library against your environment
Every check comes with a risk level, a review frequency, an assignee and a plain-language rationale, so the output reads for leadership as well as for engineers.
