Documentation
Network diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, and asset inventory standards
Documentation is judged on one question: could somebody who was not involved use this during an incident? Most documentation fails that question, not because it is missing but because it is eighteen months stale and nobody knows which parts still apply.
This library checks currency and usability, not existence.
What this library checks
- Network and application diagrams with a last-reviewed date
- Runbooks for the scenarios most likely to occur, tested by someone unfamiliar
- Asset inventory completeness against what the RMM and the network actually see
- Credential and secret management, including shared account handling
- Vendor and support contact list with contract references
- Standard operating procedures for repeated tasks
- Documentation ownership and review cadence
Evidence you will be asked for
Every check in Spectra Core carries its own evidence. These are the artefacts an auditor, insurer or board most often wants to see for this area.
- Diagram with a visible review date
- Asset inventory reconciled against discovered devices
- Runbook walkthrough record by someone outside the usual team
Where this usually goes wrong
The test that matters is not whether documentation exists. It is whether the second engineer, at two in the morning, can act on it without phoning the first one.
Run this library against your environment
Every check comes with a risk level, a review frequency, an assignee and a plain-language rationale, so the output reads for leadership as well as for engineers.
